The Story

Three decades before the first 2R Homes project.

Toby started as an equipment operator in 1991. Electrician training came next — which matters more than it sounds, because a builder who has actually pulled wire and read a panel schedule sees a set of plans differently than one who hasn't. After that came years building custom homes directly: reading plans, running crews, and learning what actually separates a well-built house from one that just looks good on closing day.

Then came fifteen years of large-scale mining and reclamation work — site development at the Morenci Copper Mine in Arizona, wind farm construction across the Midwest, and high-altitude work at Climax Mine in Colorado, at 13,200 feet of elevation. That's also the experience behind SurfaceTek, Inc., the excavation, septic, and grading company Toby founded serving La Pine and Central Oregon.

2R Homes is where that experience comes back to residential construction. Grade, drainage, framing, and sequencing behave the same way on a quarter-acre lot as they do on a mine site — the stakes are just personal instead of industrial.
